On July 22, Ford announced it will roll out all-new standard certified cabin air filters called Ford Refresh95 beginning this year, with plans to cover a majority of its lineup by the end of 2023.
Assembled in the U.S., Ford Refresh95 is Ford’s new standard advanced cabin air filter.
As air moves through a vehicle’s heating, air conditioning and ventilation system, Ford Refresh95 aims to help reduce microscopic particles that can originate both inside and outside a vehicle’s interior.
Ford Refresh95 availability is expected in fourth-quarter 2021 for select vehicles, including the Bronco Sport, Escape, Explorer, Mustang Mach-E, Police Interceptor Utility and Maverick (available fall 2021).

On April 30, MANN+HUMMEL announced It is using nanofiber technology in cabin air filters for automotive applications, reducing the number of pollutants that vehicle occupants breathe, and thus improving the air quality in the vehicle cabin.
The nanofiber filter media consists of a carrier media and an extremely thin layer of ultra-fine polymer fibers. The fibers with a diameter of less than one micrometer are approximately 200 times smaller than the fibers of the carrier material. These ultrafine fibers and their large number ensure a higher separation efficiency of fine particles like PM2.5 and PM1, and also ultrafine particles, keeping at the same time a low air flow resistance thanks to the low grammage of the fiber layer.
A ePM1 classification of the nanofiber filter media was achieved according to ISO 16 890, which means that the filtration efficiency of PM1 particles can reach up to 95 %. Another attractive aspect of this technology is its possible combination with any further media like particle filter media, filter media with activated carbon or/and bio functional layer. This enables varieties of customized solutions to meet the requirements of vehicle manufacturers.

On April 26, MAN announced that the international bus sector is still severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. To support bus companies and public operators and to protect passengers and bus drivers from becoming infected with the virus, MAN Truck & Bus quickly developed measures to ensure hygiene, and is continually improving these. As of recently, MAN now offers high-performance microparticle filters with antiviral effect, alongside many other measures. These are available for all new MAN and NEOPLAN buses as optional equipment ex works, or as a retrofit solution via the MAN service network for vehicles that are already in use.
The new cabin air filters filter viral aerosols with a progressive multi-layer design, preventing viral re-aerosolization. The first two layers capture the majority of ultra-fine viral aerosols. In addition, the third, biofunctional layer almost completely inactivates the absorbed viral load and thus prevents the release of active viruses back into the cabin air.
Another building block of MAN’s extensive concept for protection against infection with coronavirus is the hygienic protective screen for the driver's workplace. This is installed on almost all city buses, intercity buses and coaches from MAN and NEOPLAN ex works, and is available via the MAN service network for retrofitting. Floor-to-ceiling panels protect against SARS-CoV-2 viruses and other infections.
