German car sales rise 3.5% in August

On September 4, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 253,679 new passenger car registrations in August, an 3.5% increase from the same month last year.
Year-to-date registrations of 2,323,785 vehicles in the first eight months of the year represented an increase of 2.9% from the same period in 2016.
Volkswagen brand sales of 43,531 units (17.2% market share) decreased 10.9% in August compared to the same month in 2016.
Mercedes sales of 26,679 units (10.5% share) increased 7.5% from last year.
Audi sales of 19,406 units (7.6% share) increased 0.9% in August.
BMW sales of 18,713 units (7.4% share) increased 6.7% from last year.
Opel sales of 18,579 units (7.3% share) increased 13.0% from the same month last year.
Ford sales of 16,586 units (6.5% share) decreased 4.8% in August.
Sales of 25,335 trucks in August represented a decrease of 3.3% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 454 buses represented an decrease of 2.8%.
In August, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 58.4% market share, diesel vehicles had a 37.7% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 357,300 units had increased 13% and domestic production of 459,900 units had increased 12% from last August.
