Canadian car sales up 6.5% in June

Canadian car sales in June were up 6.5% from the same month in 2016 to 203,486 units, marking the June record sales.
SUV and pickup sales, at 137,046 units, were up 10.0% in June, while passenger car sales, at 66,440 units, were down 0.1% compared to last year.
Combined sales in June for the Detroit Big 3 were up 5.2% to 86,835 units, while sales of all foreign nameplates combined were up 7.4% to 116,651 units.
Of the Big Three manufacturers, Ford was up 14.1% and GM was up 4.2%, and FCA was down 3.1% from last June.
Among Japanese automakers, Toyota brand sales were up 4.0% and Honda sales were up 14.1%. Nissan brand sales were up 12.4%, Mazda sales were up 4.0%, Subaru sales were up 6.1%, and Mitsubishi sales were up 9.4%.
Hyundai sales were down 15.5% and Kia sales were up 8.8% from June 2016.
Among German companies, Mercedes sales were up 13.1% and BMW brand was up 6.6%.
VW brand sales were up 30.3% compared to the previous year, while Audi sales were up 24.3%.
