European passenger cars up 11.2% in March, 8.4% in first three months

On April 19, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced that European Union (EU) passenger car registrations of 1,891,583 units in March represented an increase of 11.2% from the same month in 2016, with results based partially on the Easter holiday falling in March in 2016 and in April in 2017.
EU passenger car registrations of 4,141,269 units for the first three months of 2017 represented an increase of 8.4% from the same period in 2016.
Combined EU (with 27 members) and EFTA country (Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland) sales of 1,936,839 units in March represented a 10.9% increase from March 2016.
EU and EFTA sales of 4,256,202 units in the first three months of 2017 represented an increase of 8.2% compared with the same period in 2016.
All five of the major EU markets recorded strong performances for the month of March, as registrations increased 18.2% in Italy, 12.6% in Spain, 11.4% in Germany, 8.4% in the UK, and 7.0% in France.
