Indonesian sales up 17.7% in December, up 4.7% in 2016

Indonesian automobile manufacturers association (Gaikindo) and other sources reported that Indonesian vehicle sales in December were 86,234 units up 17.7% year over year. It was the 9th consecutive month of increases.
The 2016 full year sales were up 4.7% to 1,061,015 units.
By automaker sales in 2016, Toyota was up 18.6% y/y to 382,651 units and Honda was up 25.2% to 199,364 units. Daihatsu was up 13.0% to 189,683 units. Mitsubishi was down 13.1% to 97,761 units. Suzuki was down 23.7% to 92,950 units.
Toyota, Daihatsu, Honda sales were very strong with recently launched new models.
Gaikindo forecasts that 2017 sales will reach 1.1 million units. It sees that infrastructure projects and rising prices of commodities will help to increase automobile demand.
