U.S. car sales down 5.8% in December, down 1.3% for full-year 2019U.S. light vehicle sales in December of 1,533,555 units were down 5.8% as compared to the same month in 2018.
Truck and SUV sales fell 3.2% from last December to 1,139,377 units, while passenger car sales declined 12.5% to 394,178 units.
December had 25 selling days in 2019, one less than in December 2018.
Total 2019 full-year sales of 17,047,725 units were down 1.3% from 2018 year-end totals.
Truck and SUV full-year sales were up 2.6% to 12,234,492 units, while passenger car sales were down 10.1% to 4,813,233 units for 2019.
The overall SAAR for December was 16.87 million units, compared to 17.44 million units one year ago.
GM estimated sales in December were down 6.4%, Ford sales were down 1.5%, and FCA sales were down 2.8% compared to December 2018.
For all of 2019, GM sales were down 2.5% and Ford sales were down 3.2%, and FCA sales were down 1.4% compared to 2018.
Toyota sales were down 6.1%, Nissan sales were down 29.5%, Honda sales were down 12.0%, and Subaru sales were down 3.4% compared to last December.
For all of 2019, Toyota sales were down 1.8%, Nissan sales were down 9.9%, Honda sales were up 0.2%, and Subaru sales were up 2.9% compared to 2018.
Kia’s December sales increased 8.0%, while Hyundai sales increased 1.9% from last December.
For all 2019, Kia’s sales increased 4.4%, while Hyundai sales increased 4.7% from 2018.
Mercedes-Benz sales in December decreased 2.4%, BMW sales increased 4.0% and Volkswagen brand sales decreased 13.0% from the same month last year.
For all of 2019, Mercedes-Benz sales increased 1.0%, BMW sales increased 4.4% and Volkswagen brand sales increased 2.6% from 2018.
Volvo sales increased 40.0% in December, while Jaguar Land Rover sales decreased 2.0% from last December.
For all of 2019, Volvo sales increased 10.1%, while Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 2.6% from 2018.
Tesla’s estimated December sales were up 15.9% to 23,300 units, while total estimated 2019 sales were up 41.9% to 178,950 units.

U.S. auto sales increase 1.9% in NovemberU.S. new vehicle sales of 1,413,514 units for the month of November represented a 1.9% increase from November 2018.
November’s passenger car sales fell 8.7% to 377,408 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 6.4% to 1,036,106 units.
There were 26 selling days in November 2019, one more than in November 2018.
The light vehicle SAAR for November 2019 was 17.2 million units versus 17.4 million units one year ago.
General Motors sales decreased 1.4%, while Ford sales decreased 3.3%, and FCA sales fell 3.9% in November.
Tesla’s estimated 16,450 sales in November were down 2.1% from the same month in 2018.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Subaru sales increased 9.2%, 11.1%, 18.0%, 6.5% and 0.2%, respectively, while Nissan sales fell 15.9% from those of November 2018.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 9.2% from last November, while Kia sales increased 12.0%.
Among German companies, Daimler AG sales increased 13.3%, BMW Group sales increased 7.6%, and VW sales increased 9.1% compared to November 2018.
Volvo sales increased 17.8% and Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 6.2% from last November.
The top 10 best-selling models in November, in order, were Ford F-Series pickups, Ram pickups, Chevrolet Silverado pickups, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota Camry, Nissan Rogue, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla.

U.S. auto sales decline 0.7% in OctoberU.S. new vehicle sales of 1,343,842 units for the month of October represented a 0.7% decrease from October 2018.
October’s passenger car sales fell 16.4% to 355,266 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 6.4% to 988,576 units.
There were 27 selling days in October 2019, one more than in October 2018.
General Motors sales decreased 12.2%, while Ford sales increased 1.0%, and FCA sales fell 0.2% in October.
Tesla’s estimated 14,000 sales in October were down 5.4% from the same month in 2018.
Among Japanese companies, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru sales increased 7.6%, 4.5%, and 0.2%, respectively, while Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi sales fell 1.2%, 5.8%, and 7.9%, respectively, from those of October 2018.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 11.3% from last October, while Kia sales increased 10.9%.
Among German companies, Daimler AG sales increased 1.0%, BMW Group sales increased 7.5%, and VW Group (excluding Porsche) sales increased 4.8% compared to October 2018.
Volvo sales increased 20.2% for the company’s best ever October performance, and Jaguar Land Rover sales decreased 0.5% from last October.

U.S. auto sales drop 11.1% in SeptemberU.S. new vehicle sales of 1,272,726 units for the month of September represented a 11.1% decrease from September 2018.
September’s passenger car sales fell 19.7% to 353,987 units, while SUV and truck sales decreased 7.3% to 918,739 units.
September had an overall SAAR of 17.23 million units compared to 17.33 million units in September 2018.
There were 23 selling days in September 2019, two fewer than in September 2018.
General Motors sales decreased 10.4%, while Ford sales fell 11.8%, and FCA sales fell 9.3% in September.
Tesla’s estimated 16,000 sales in September were up 13.5% from the same month in 2018.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru sales decreased 16.5%, 17.6%, 14.1%, 11.4% and 9.4%, respectively, while Mitsubishi sales increased 0.2%.
Hyundai/Genesis sales decreased 6.7% from last September, while Kia sales dropped 13.4%.
Among German companies, Daimler AG sales increased 4.5% and BMW Group sales increased 5.5%, while VW Group sales decreased 9.8% compared to September 2018.
Volvo sales increased 7.0% and Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 5.4% from last September.

U.S. auto sales rise 10.9% in August
U.S. new vehicle sales of 1,649,669 units for the month of August represented an increase of 10.9% increase from August 2018.
August’s passenger car sales fell 1.3% to 453,250 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 16.4% to 1,196,419 units.
August had an overall SAAR of 17.07 million units compared to 16.94 million units in August 2018.
There were 28 selling days in August 2019, one more than in August 2018.
General Motors sales increased 21.3%, while Ford sales fell 3.6%, and FCA sales jumped 11.1% in August.
Tesla’s estimated 13,200 sales in August were down 11.4% from the same month in 2018.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru sales increased 11.3%, 13.2%, 17.6%, 6.5% and 9.3%, respectively, while Mitsubishi sales decreased 3.3%.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 13.8% from last August, while Kia sales increased 12.7%.
Among German companies, Daimler AG increased 24.9%, and VW Group sales increased 7.7%, and BMW Group increased 6.6% compared to August 2018.
Volvo sales increased 2.5% while Jaguar Land Rover sales decreased 9.8% from last August.
August’s top ten selling vehicles, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Ram 1500-3500, Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Equinox, and Honda Accord.

There were 25 selling days in July 2019, one more than in July 2018.
General Motors sales increased 6.8%, while Ford sales were flat, and FCA sales fell 1.4% in July.
Tesla’s estimated 12,800 sales in July were down 12.9% from the same month in 2018.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota, Honda, and Subaru sales increased 0.2%, 1.9%, and 7.9%, respectively, while Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Mazda sales decreased 9.1%, 13.4% and 3.5%, respectively.

U.S. auto sales fall 2.8% in JuneU.S. new vehicle sales of 1,509,963 units for the month of June represented a decline of 4.7% from May and a 2.8% decline from June 2018.
June’s passenger car sales fell 9.5% to 456,040 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 0.4% to 1,053,923 units.
June had an overall SAAR of 17.20 million units compared to 17.50 million units in June 2018.
General Motors and Ford sales decreased 2.9%, and 4.7%, respectively, while FCA sales increased 1.9% in June.
Tesla’s estimated 14,400 sales in June were up 75.6% from the same month in 2018.
Among Japanese companies, Subaru sales increased 2.8%, while Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Mazda sales decreased 3.5%, 14.9%, 7.3% and 15.1%. respectively.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 3.2% from last June, while Kia sales increased 0.4%.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz (including smart and vans) increased 0.5%, and BMW (including MINI) increased 3.9%, while VW brand sales increased 9.6%, compared to June 2018.
Volvo sales rose 0.7%, though Jaguar Land Rover sales decreased 9.1% from last June.
June’s top ten selling vehicles, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Ram 1500-3500, Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Nissan Rogue, Chevrolet Equinox, and Toyota Corolla.

U.S. auto sales decline 0.2% in MayU.S. new vehicle sales of 1,590,217 units for the month of May represented a decline of 0.2% from May 2018.
May’s passenger car sales fell 10.4% to 474,138 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 5.0% to 1,116,079 units.
May had an overall SAAR of 17.40 million units compared to 16.90 million units in May 2018.
General Motors and Ford sales decreased 1.3%, and 4.1%, respectively, while FCA sales increased 2.1% in May.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota sales increased 3.2%, Nissan sales rose 0.1%, and Subaru sales increased 6.4%, while Honda sales decreased 4.9% and Mazda sales decreased 16.0%.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 3.6% from last May, while Kia sales increased 1.0%.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz decreased 0.4%, and BMW brand increased 1.7%, while VW brand sales increased 14.4%, compared to May 2018.
Volvo sales rose 4.5%, though Jaguar Land Rover sales decreased 1.2% from last May.

U.S. auto sales slide 1.7% in AprilWith one extra selling day compared to the same month in 2018, U.S. new vehicle sales of 1,331,671 units for the month of April represented a decrease of 1.7% from April 2018, and a decrease of 17.2% from March 2019.
April’s passenger car sales fell 7.1% to 409,134 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 0.9% to 922,537 units.
April had an overall SAAR of 16.4 million units compared to 17.2 million units in April 2018.
General Motors, Ford, and FCA sales decreased 1.0%, 4.7%, and 6.1%, respectively, in April.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota sales fell 4.4%, and Mazda sales fell 14.5%.
Nissan sales increased 9.0%, Honda sales increased 0.1%, and Subaru sales increased 7.7%, which represents a record for the company for the month of April and its 89th consecutive month of YoY growth.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 1.7% from last April, while Kia sales increased 1.6%.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz (including smart and vans) decreased 14.6%, and BMW (including MINI) decreased 2.9%, while VW brand sales increased 8.7%, compared to April 2018.
Volvo sales rose 0.4% and Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 10.0% from last April.
April’s top ten selling vehicles, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Ram 1500-3500, Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota RAV4, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Jeep Wrangler.

U.S. auto sales decline 2.7% in MarchU.S. new vehicle sales of 1,608,662 units for the month of March represented a decrease of 2.7% compared with March 2018.
March’s passenger car sales fell 9.0% to 505,811 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 0.5% to 1,102,851 units.
March had an overall SAAR of 17.5 million units compared to 17.49 million units in March 2018.
General Motors, Ford, and FCA sales decreased 8.4%, 5.2%, and 7.3%, respectively, in March.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota sales fell 3.5% and Nissan sales fell 7.2%, while Honda sales increased 4.3%, and Subaru sales increased 6.0%.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 1.8% from last March, while Kia sales increased 10.2%.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz decreased 2.7%, while BMW and VW brand sales increased 2.9% and 14.0%, respectively, compared to March 2018.
Volvo sales rose 16.2% and Jaguar Land Rover sales decreased 7.5% from last March.

February’s passenger car sales fell 11.9% to 386,806 units, while SUV and truck sales increased 1.7% to 878,288 units.
February had an overall SAAR of 16.61 million units compared to 17.08 million units in February 2018.
General Motors, Ford, and FCA sales decreased 5.3%, 4.4%, and 2.3%, respectively, in February.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota sales fell 5.2%, Nissan sales fell 12.0%, Honda sales fell 0.4%, and Subaru sales increased 3.9%.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 2.3% from last February, while Kia sales increased 6.7%.
Among German companies, BMW gained 0.2% marginally. while Mercedes-Benz (excluding vans) and VW sales decreased 12.5%, and 3.6%, respectively, compared to February 2018.
Volvo sales rose 5.6% and Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 3.6% from last February.

U.S. auto sales slip 1.9% in JanuaryThe U.S. new vehicle sales of 1,132,911 units for the month of January represented a decrease of 1.9% compared with January 2017.
Passenger car sales fell 4.8% to 361,908 units, while SUV and truck sales decreased 0.5% to 771,003 units.
January had an overall SAAR of 16.70 million units compared to 17.19 million units in January 2017.
Among OEM-reported sales for the month, Ford sales increased 7.1%, and FCA sales increased 2.5%, although General Motors sales decreased 6.9% to an estimated 184,780 vehicles.
Among Japanese companies, Toyota sales fell 6.6%, Nissan sales fell 18.5%, Honda sales increased 1.5% and Subaru sales increased 3.9%.
Hyundai/Genesis sales increased 1.9% from last January, while Kia sales increased 4.9%.
Among German companies, Mercedes-Benz sales (including vans) decreased 13.7% and BMW sales decreased 4.8%, while VW sales decreased 6.7% compared to January 2017.
Volvo sales rose 5.2% and Jaguar Land Rover sales increased 15.6% from last January.
