Executive Summary

  The following is an outline of 24 models of green vehicles such as EVs, HEVs and FCVs, which were showcased by six major Chinese state-owned automakers, SAIC (SAIC Motor Corp.), FAW (China FAW Group), CHANA (Changan Automobile Group), DFM (Dongfeng Motor Corp.), GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group), and BAIC (BAIC Group: Beijing Automobile Industry Holding), at the Beijing Motor Show 2010 (held from April 23 to May 2).

  In addition, at the end of this report there is a summary of 35 new volume production models by the above six companies (and Haima (Zhengzhou) Automobile as well) from April 2010 to the end of 2012.

SAIC Motor Corp.: the E1, an EV concept model

SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle: the E1, a concept model of EV, to be mass-produced in 2012

Exhibit Summary
E1   It is an A00-class EV hatchback concept model (3-door and 4-seater version) with plans to start production in December 2012. The vehicle weighs 1,040kg. It employs a lithium iron phosphate lithium-ion battery (capacity of 16kWh) for driving and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output of 28kW/maximum output of 47kW). It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery up to 80-85% at a quick charge facility. It cruises up to 135km at a constant speed on a full charge. The top speed is 120km/h. The energy efficiency (electric power consumption rate) is 12kWh/100km.

  The model was introduced for the first time at the show. It is an EV concept model of an A0-class compact SUV. The longest cruising range is 160km on a full charge. The top speed is 140km/h. The vehicle weighs 1,127kg. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 3,440mm, 1,700mm, 1,515mm and 2,390mm, respectively.
  It employs a solar power generation system with solar panels on the sunroof, a lithium-ion battery (capacity of 50Ah) for storage/driving, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (maximum output of 60kW/maximum torque of 211Nm). A parking assist system with a monitor is provided.
Besturn B70 FCV   It is an FCV sedan concept model developed independently based on the platform of the Besturn B70 (released in 2006). It has been developed as a part of the energy-saving and new energy vehicle development project in line with the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China ("863" Program). It is one of the vehicle models exhibited at the Expo 2010 Shanghai China. It cruises up to 300km on a full charge. The top speed is 150km/h. The energy efficiency (hydrogen consumption rate) is 1.2kg/100km. The vehicle weighs 1,800kg. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,705mm, 1,782mm, 1,465mm and 2,675mm, respectively.
  The powertrain consists of a hydrogen-fueled engine (maximum output of 55kW/output voltage of 360V) a lithium-ion battery (capacity of 8Ah/rated voltage of 375V) and a motor (maximum output of 88kW/rated output of 42kW/maximum torque of 210 Nm/rated speed of 11,500rpm).
Besturn B70 HEV   The model is a full hybrid sedan developed independently as a part of the "863" Program of China. The top speed is 180km/h. The fuel efficiency is 6.0L/100km. The fuel tank capacity is 64L. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,705mm, 1,782mm, 1,465mm and 2,675mm, respectively.
  The hybrid system consists of a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine (maximum output of 74kW/maximum torque of 135Nm), a permanent magnet synchronous motor (output of 40kW), a nickel-metal-hydride battery (capacity of 6Ah) produced domestically in China, and so on.

FAW Haima Motor: two production models, an EV and a HEV

Haima 3 HEV   The model is a HEV sedan concept model based on the Haima 3. There are plans to start production in 2011. The vehicle weighs 1,390kg. The maximum cruising range exceeds 500km. The top speed is 160km/h. The energy efficiency is less than 6L/100km. It is improved by 15 to 20% compared to the gasoline version of the model. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,466mm, 1,730mm, 1,474mm and 2,607mm, respectively.
  The hybrid system consists of an ISG, a motor (rated output of 6kW/rated torque of 65Nm), a capacitor (rated voltage of 42V/capacity of 200F/maximum output density of 10kW/kg and power density of 6Wh/kg), a 1.5L engine (maximum output of 77kW/maximum torque of 140Nm) produced in-house, and so on.
Freema EV   It is an EV version of a MPV (with seven seats) based on the Freema, which is one of the production versions of the EV models listed as the energy-saving and new energy vehicles recommended by the Chinese government in November 2009. Road tests of the model are carried by an electric power company in Hainan province. The energy efficiency (electric power consumption rate) is 16kWh/100km. A quick and full charge takes around two hours. The maximum cruising range is 160km on a full charge. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,295mm, 1,705mm, 1,555mm and 2,670mm, respectively.
  The model features a lithium iron phosphate lithium-ion battery and a permanent magnet brushless motor for driving.

Changan New Energy vehicle: Five environmentally friendly models in all such as EV, HEV and FCV.

Z-Shine PHEV   The model is a PHEV sedan (with five seats) based on the Z-Shine 3box. There are plans to release it in 2011 or later. The selling price is expected to be 120,000 to 140,000 RMB. The fuel efficiency is 2.9L/100km. The maximum cruising range in the EV mode is 80km at a constant speed of 60km/h. The vehicle weighs 1,410kg. The top speed is 150km/h. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,600mm, 1,800mm, 1,475mm and 2,650mm, respectively.
  The hybrid system consists of a 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine (maximum output of 65kW/maximum torque of 121Nm) produced in-house, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (maximum output of 40kW/maximum torque of 120Nm), a lithium-ion battery (rated voltage of 320V/capacity of 30Ah for the exhibition; with the option of using another battery with a different capacity), and so on.
Z-Shine
Fuel-Cell
  The model is a FCV version of a medium-sized sedan based on the Z-Shine 3. The accomplishments of the FCV development project under the "863" program (powertrain, key parts technologies etc.) are incorporated. It is one of the vehicle models exhibited at the Expo 2010 Shanghai China. The top speed is 150km/h. The longest cruising range is 350km on a tank of fuel (hydrogen). The energy efficiency (hydrogen consumption rate) is 1.2kg/100km. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,600mm, 1,800mm, 1,475mm and 2,650mm, respectively.
  The powertrain consists of a fuel cell (maximum output of 55kW/voltage of 360V) a lithium-ion battery (rated voltage of 375V/capacity of 8Ah) and a motor (rated output of 42kW@4000rpm/maximum output of 88kW@11500rpm/maximum torque of 210 Nm) for driving, among other features.
Benny Mini EV   The model is an EV hatchback (a 5-seater version based on the Benny Mini) which took two years for the company to develop independently. There are plans to launch it at the end of 2010. It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery fully with a quick charger, or seven hours with household electricity. The maximum cruising range is 105km on a full charge. The top speed is 110km/h. The energy efficiency (electric power consumption rate) is 15kWh/100km. The vehicle weighs 950kg. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 3,524mm, 1,560mm, 1,494mm and 2,340mm, respectively.
  It employs a permanent magnet synchronous motor (maximum output of 50kW@9000rpm/rated output of 20kW@3000rpm/maximum torque of 160Nm) and a lithium-ion battery (voltage of 320V/capacity of 60Ah).
Meirenyu
(C201)
  It is a PHEV sedan concept model with a European style exterior. The fuel efficiency is 5.9L/100km. The overall length, width and height measure 4,610mm, 1,780mm and 1,500mm, respectively.
  It runs on a 1.5L engine (maximum output of 127kW/maximum torque of 255Nm) produced in-house, a 6-speed AT with manual mode and an idling stop system. The panoramic sunroof and the reverse parking radar system are available.
CX30 Ditanban   The model is a micro hybrid hatchback based on the platform of Z-Shine 3box. There are plans to release it in July 2010. The selling price is expected to be 80,000 to 100,000 RMB. It has a BSG installed as well as a 1.6L aluminum engine (maximum output of 78kW/maximum torque of 151Nm) combined with a 5-speed MT. The power sunroof and the reverse parking radar system are available. The fuel efficiency is 6.9L/100km. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,450mm, 1,800mm, 1,475mm and 2,650mm, respectively.

Chongqing Changan Automobile: four new green vehicles such as HEV, including the version with a solar system

CHANA Star 2HEV   It is a micro hybrid version of a mini-sized van, which is planned to be released around October 2010. It runs on a 1.0L 4-cylinder engine (maximum output of 60kW/maximum torque of 102Nm) produced in-house combined with a 5-speed MT. The idling stop system and the BSG are available. The energy efficiency is 6.6L/100km. It has been improved by 15% compared to the gasoline version of the model. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 3,845mm, 1,500 (1,580) mm, 1,900mm and 2,500mm, respectively.
CHANA Star
S460 HEV
  This is the first micro hybrid mini-sized van for the company (five to eight seats version) developed at its own development center in Chongqing based on the CHANA Star S460. It uses an idling stop mechanism, a 1.0L 4-cylinder engine (maximum output of 51kW) combined with a 5-speed MT. The fuel efficiency is improved by 15% compared to the gasoline engine version of the model. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 3,995mm, 1,645 (1.710) mm, 1,910mm and 2,605mm, respectively.
CHANA Shine

  It is a mini-sized van with solar panels based on CHANA Shine 4500. The model is planned to be released in September 2010 at the earliest. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,390mm, 1,655mm, 1,935mm and 2,800mm, respectively.
  It installs an engine with a maximum output of 60kW and a maximum torque of 102Nm, and a battery with a maximum output of 300W. Solar panels (2 sheets) are attached on the panoramic sunroof to drive the air conditioning system, among other features.
Alsvin CNG   The model is a CNG (compressed natural gas) version of a sedan. It installs a 1.5L CNG engine (maximum output of 72kW/maximum torque of 137Nm) combined with 4-speed AT. The energy efficiency (CNG consumption rate) is 7.6m3/100km. The CNG tank capacity is 65L. The ACC (adaptive cruise control) and the reverse parking radar system are installed. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,360mm, 1,710mm, 1,475mm and 2,515mm, respectively.

  The model was introduced for the first time at the show. It is a concept model of the HEV sedan based on the Fengshen S30. The vehicle weighs 1,260kg. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,502mm, 1,740mm, 1,465mm and 2,610mm, respectively. The fuel efficiency is improved by 22% compared to the gasoline-engine version of the model.
  The hybrid system consists of an ISG, an idling stop mechanism, a regenerative brake system, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (maximum output of 15kW/maximum torque of 110Nm), a nickel-metal hydride battery (output voltage of 144V/capacity of 6Ah), a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine made by Dongfeng-Peugeot-Citroen Automobile, among other features.

Dongfeng Yu'an Automobile: An EV version model, based on Dongfeng Xiaokang K07

  The model is an EV version of a mini-sized van (with seven seats) based on the Dongfeng Xiaokang K07. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 3,795mm, 1,560mm, 1,925mm and 2,515mm, respectively. Two versions of the vehicle are available according to the types of battery. (1) One is the lead battery (voltage of 12V/capacity of 100Ah) version, and (2) the other is the lithium-ion battery (3.2V/180Ah) version.
  The former version (1) is exported to Sweden and Holland with the export price (FOB) of around 10,000 USD. The vehicle weighs 1,350kg. It cruises up to 100km at a constant speed of 35km/h on a full charge.
  The latter version (2) weighs 1,240kg. It cruises up to 160km at a constant speed of 60km/h on a full charge (it takes around six hours to charge the battery fully).

  It is a HEV crossover concept model (4WD) developed independently based on the platform of the Trumpche (Chuanqi). It was introduced for the first time at the Guangzhou Motor Show 2009. The production model based on this concept will have a plug-in system, which is planned to be put on the production line at the end of 2010 at the earliest.
  The hybrid system, developed independently, consists of a rear axle with a double rotor motor, an engine with belt-driven idling stop mechanism, a lithium-ion battery, among other features.

GAC Changfeng Motors: a concept model of an EV crossover, the EV-CS7

EV-CS7   It is a concept model of an EV version of crossover based on the CS7. The vehicle weighs 1,450kg. The top speed is 120km/h. It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery up to 80% at a quick charge facility. The cruising range is 160km on a full charge. The energy efficiency (electric power consumption rate) is 16kWh/100km. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,210mm, 1,730mm, 1,720mm and 2,550mm, respectively.
  It runs on a water cooled AC induction motor (maximum output of 75kW/maximum torque of 199Nm/DC input rated voltage of 312V) and a lithium iron phosphate lithium-ion battery (capacity of 100Ah/maximum charging capacity of over 30kWh) and a DC-DC converter (maximum output of 12V/100A).

BAIC Motor and Beijing New Energy Vehicle: three EVs and a HEV

C30 EV   The model was introduced for the first time at the show. It is an EV hatchback concept model developed independently based on the C30 2box, an A0-class model. There are plans to start production in 2010 at the earliest. The vehicle weighs around 1,000kg. A quick charge up to 80% takes around 30 minutes and a full charge using AC power source (250V/20A) takes four to five hours. The top speed is 160km/h. The maximum cruising range is 200km on a full charge. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,038mm, 1,720mm, 1,500mm and 2,500mm, respectively.
  The lithium-ion battery (rated capacity of 100Ah) installed for driving has a total maximum output of 31kW and provides over 2,000 discharge/charge cycles. The AC induction motor (rated voltage of 288 to 336V) delivers a maximum output of 47kw/4700rpm and a maximum torque of 82Nm/4700rpm. It is also equipped with ABS and ESP.
B90 Hybrid   The model was introduced for the first time at the show. It is a HEV concept of the full-sized SUV (the flagship model of the company). It is planned to be launched in around 2012. The selling price is expected to be one million RMB or lower. The vehicle weighs 2,680kg. The top speed is 185km/h. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 5,220mm, 2,010mm, 2,000mm and 2,950mm, respectively.
  The hybrid system allows the driver to select one out of two driving modes, the dual mode type, and has a 5.7L V8 engine (maximum output of 248kW@5100rpm/maximum torque of 498Nm@4100rpm) combined with a 4-speed AT.
C71 EV   The model was introduced for the first time at the show. It is an EV sedan concept model (B-class) developed independently based on the platform of the Saab 95 (GM2900). The production will start around mid 2011. The vehicle weighs 1,880kg. The top speed is 160km/h. It cruises up to 150km on a full charge on a city-use base. The energy efficiency (electric power consumption rate) is 15kWh/100km. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,853mm, 1,788mm, 1,525mm and 2,703mm, respectively.
  The EV system uses a replaceable lithium iron phosphate lithium-ion battery (rated capacity of 75Ah/rated voltage of 336V), a water cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated voltage of 336V/rated output of 60kW@3500rpm/maximum output of 110kW @5500rpm/rated torque of 160Nm/maximum torque of 300Nm) for driving and an ECU (inverter operating voltage of 280 to 380V/rated output of 70kW/maximum output of 120kW/DC-DC rated output of 1.0kW/onboard charger output of 3.3kW). Replenishment of the electric power is done in either of two ways, battery replacement (takes 2 to 5 minutes) or normal charging (non-quick charging).
C70 EV   The model is an EV medium-sized sedan developed independently based on the C70. The vehicle weighs 1,838kg. The top speed is 160km/h. The maximum cruising range is 160km on a full charge. It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery quickly up to 60%, and a full charge using household electricity takes six to eight hours. The energy efficiency (electric power consumption rate) is 15kWh/100km. The overall length, width, height and wheelbase measure 4,800mm, 1,840mm, 1,498mm and 2,765mm, respectively.
  The EV installs a lithium iron phosphate lithium-ion battery (capacity of 75Ah/operating voltage of 260 to 378V/rated voltage of 336V/maximum charging voltage of 375V), a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output of 60kW@3500rpm/maximum output of 110kW @5500rpm/rated torque of 160Nm/maximum torque of 300Nm), an ECU (inverter operating voltage of 280 to 380V/rated output of 70kW/maximum output of 120kW, DC-DC rated output of 1.0kW/onboard charger output of 3.3kW) and an AT with manual mode.

Beiqi Foton Motor: a FCV concept car

  The model is a FCV concept model (2-seater version) of Beiqi Foton Motor which was jointly developed with Guangzhou Automobile College of South China University of Technology. The FCV system activates the fuel cell with the hydrogen produced through the electrolysis of water using the electricity which is provided by solar photovoltaic generation (once stored in the battery).
