KAIZEN DIRECTIONS FOR AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS PRODUCTION

1. Eliminating Defects in the Devices (Semiconductors, Electronic Parts, Boards and Sensors etc.)
- Much of the total volume of electronic devices is not self-manufactured but purchased.
- QCD Improvement comes from the engineering ability of Tier 1 manufacturers.
- Kaizen in the Circuit Design greatly increases the level of QCD improvement.

2. Eliminating Defects in the Device Solder-Mounting on the PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards)
- These are the most serious problems in the ECU manufacturing process.
- QCD Improvement comes from improving operators' soldering and mounting skills.

3. Eliminating Defects in the PWBs (Printed Wiring Boards)
- Much of the total volume of printed wiring boards are purchased.
- QCD Improvement comes from the manufacturing ability of Tier 2 manufacturers.
- Kaizen in the Board Design greatly increases the level of QCD improvement.

WHAT CAN GO WRONG IN QCD IMPROVEMENT

STEPS FOR QCD IMPROVEMENT

[Quality Statement] Quality is created in the manufacturing process. If the causes leading to defects are eliminated beforehand, the burden to eliminate defects are not passed on during the respective processes.
[Procedure]

Education & Training
1
Check the on-site data. Analyze the emerging pattern. Understand why defects come out. [Literature Review]
- Experiment Design & Data Survey. (Refer to Fig.1. as below)
- Practical Use of Test Boards.
2
Visualization of Defects.
- Practical Use of your Digital Camera.
3
Microscopic Observation of Faulty Points. (Refer to Fig.2. as below)
- Practical Use of Analysis Tools (e.g. Microscope)
Cultivation of Self-prescription
4
Feedback Nonconformance Reports to the Mfg. Process.
- Accumulation of Fault Examples
5
Revision of Checklists & Manuals on site.
6
Launch the Site-Remediation Movement.
- Review the Authority & Time Allocation of Operator
- OK if "Shorter working hours" less than "Existing".
7
Follow up the Improvement Actions.
8
Supervise the Tier 2 Suppliers' Improvement Actions.
- Defects in Board Manufacturers have large influence.
