China's Vehicle Production Numbered 7.28 Million in 2006 and is Forecast to amount to 8.5 Million in 2007
China's light vehicle production will amount to 10 million-mark in 2012

  In 2006, China's vehicle production and new vehicle sales amounted to 7.28 million and 7,216,000, respectively (In 2005, production numbered 5,718,000 and new vehicle sales were 5,767,000).

  Production of passenger cars numbered 5,233,000 while sales of new vehicles totaled 5,176,000 (SUV/MPV/minivan are included. In 2005, production numbered 3,942,000 while sales of new passenger cars totaled 3,981,000). Production/sales of commercial vehicles, which declined in 2005, were up to 2,047,000 and 2,040,000, respectively (In 2005, production numbered 1,776,000 and sales of new commercial vehicles totaled 1,786,000).

  It is expected that the expansion of production/sales will continue in 2007. According to the forecast announced by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China's production will total 8.5 million - 6.3 million passenger cars and 2.2 million commercial vehicles (auto manufacturers plan to sell a combined total of 6.6 million units of passenger cars).

  According to CSM Worldwide, China's light vehicle production will continue to expand in the medium run. It is forecast to increase from 5.44 million in 2006 and 6.5 million in 2007 to 9 million in 2010, further amounting to the 10 million-mark in 2012.

■The sales of passenger cars are planned to amount to 6.6 million in 2007 while the combined annual production capacity numbers 9.3 million

  The combined total production volume for 2007 announced by auto manufacturers in China is planned to aggregate to 6.6 million vehicles. The total volume will be increased 1.4 million as compared to the 2006 production.

  In contrast to this plan, the combined annual production capacity numbered 9.3 million at the end of 2006. The annual production capacity is planned to increase to slightly more than 15 million units as of about 2010.

■Production of passenger cars developed by Chinese auto manufacturers was up to 1.75 million

  Looking at the 2006 passenger car production in terms of base models, 1.75 million of them were models developed by Chinese auto manufacturers (1.05 million in 2004 and 1.31 million in 2005). Among them, SAIC Motor Corp. accounted for slightly more than 380,000, Chery Automobile and Changan Automobile Group each accounted for 300,000 while Geely Holding Group (Geely Automobile) and Hafei Motor each accounted for 200,000. Production by Brilliance Automobile Group and BYD Auto has been increasing rapidly, each surpassing 50,000.

  The production volume of models based on vehicles of overseas partner auto manufacturers numbered 3.49 million in 2006 - models based on vehicles of Japanese auto manufacturers 1.47 million, models based on those of European auto manufacturers 970,000, models on those of US auto manufacturers 600,000, and models on Korean auto manufacturers 450,000.

■China's light vehicle production will amount to 10 million-mark in 2010

  According to CSM Worldwide, China's light vehicle production will continue to expand in the medium run. The production volume will increase from 5.44 million in 2006 and 6.5 million in 2007 to 9 million in 2010. It will further amount to the 10 million-mark in 2012.

  Production volume of models developed by Chinese auto manufacturers will also expand from 2.2 million in 2006 and 2.7 million in 2007 to the 3.7 million-level in 2010, and further to 4 million in 2012 (production of light vehicles, design parent of which are Chinese auto manufacturers). Yet, those models account for approximately 40% of the total light vehicle production, whereas light vehicles, design parent of which are overseas auto manufacturers, continue to account for the remaining 60%.

(Note) 1.	Shanghai VW's 2007 sales target of 370,500 consists of 334,000 under the VW brand and 36,500 under the Skoda brand.
2.	In the China FAW Group, FAW-VW's 2007 sales target of 380,000 consist of 300,000 under the VW brand and 80,000 under the Audi brand. The sales target of Toyota/Daihatsu brand vehicles by a joint sales company between Toyota and China FAW Group is 350,000 in 2008 and 450,000 in 2009. Tianjin FAW Toyota plans to produce 130,000 and 200,000 of the new Corolla in 2007 and 2010, respectively. Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile targets to produce/sell 400,000 in 2010.
3.	Dongfeng Motor Corp. targets production/sales of 1 million in 2007, 1.2 million in 2008, and 1.8 million in 2010 (including commercial vehicles). A combined light vehicle production/sales target between Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. and Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile is 150,000 in 2007 (including 6,000 for export) and 300,000 in 2011. Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile's 2007 sales target of 265,000 consists of 165,000 under the Citroen brand and 100,000 under Peugeot brand.
4.	Changan Automobile (Group) is currently considering building up an annual production system of a combined total of 70,000 in Pakistan/Malaysia/Indonesia.
5.	Chery Automobile's 2007 sales plan of 393,000 includes 70,000 for export. The auto manufacture targets domestic production of 1 million in 2010. It plans to start production in Malaysia with a planned production of 2,000 in 2007.
7.	Hafei Motor plans to produce/sell 300,000 including 40,000 for export in 2007.
8.	Brilliance Automobile Group plans to produce/sell 300,000 in 2007 and 450,000 in 2010. Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Shenyang plant's 2007 sales plan of 132,000 consists of 120,000 of its proprietary models and 12,000 of Grace, Toyota-base MPV.
9.	Geely Holding Group's 2007 sales target of 296,000 includes 33,000 for export. In its 1 million sales target for 2010, the auto manufacturer aims to export 230,000.
10.	Jianghuai Automobile's production/sales target for 2010 is reported to be 460,000.
11.	Great Wall Motor's 2007 sales target of 135,000 includes 60,000 for export. Great Wall Motor won approval for its investment in a KD assembly plant in Russia from the Chinese government in April 2006. The auto manufacturer is reported to be currently constructing a plant with an annual production volume of 50,000.
12.	Soueast (Fujian) Motor's 2007 sales plan of 64,200 consists of 48,300 under Mitsubishi brand and 15,900 under the Soueast brand.
13.	Dandong Huaihai Automobile plans to produce/sell 50,000 pickups/SUVs in 2010. The auto manufacturer's 2007 plan of 20,000 consists of 10,000 SUVs, 5,000 pickups, and 5,000 a new model vehicle that it will launch in 2007.
14.	Zhejiang Zotye Holding targets annual production of slightly more than 50,000 by 2008 and slightly more than 100,000 in 2010.
15.	Rongcheng Huatai Automobile is also reported to be considering the construction of a new plant with an annual production capacity of 50,000 SUVs at the Jinan Hi-te Technology & Development Zone.
