The 11th Shanghai Motor Show (The 11th International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition: Shanghai Auto 2005) was held at Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong New Area, Shanghai between April 22 and 28, 2005. The exhibition area was 120,000 square meters with 1,036 companies from 26 countries/regions participating.
The Shanghai Auto 2005 was also considered to be an exhibition that showed the result of New Auto Policy announced in June 2004, in which the Chinese government made clear its policy to place emphasis on a capability for independent development. Thirteen Chinese auto manufacturers including automakers in the China FAW Group and Geely Holding Group as well as Chery Automobile exhibited their proprietary concept cars. Major overseas auto manufacturers displayed numerous concept cars and their latest models that they do not plan to introduce into China in the immediate future.
Moreover, numerous new technologies were exhibited, mainly by overseas major automakers. For example, with respect to a fuel cell vehicle, Nissan exhibited X-TRAIL FCV, Honda exhibited FCX, GM Sequel FCV, and DaimlerChrysler (DCX) B-class Fuel Cell.
Among hybrid vehicles, Toyota displayed the Prius, which it plans to begin production in China in 2005, Honda displayed Accord Hybrid and Civic Hybrid (also set an introduction corner for its hybrid technology), and DCX displayed S-class Hybrid. BYD Auto, which is under the umbrella of China's major storage battery maker BYD Group, also exhibited an electric concept car - ET.
In addition, for import/sales in China, numerous high-end brand vehicles worldwide were exhibited and major auto manufacturers that make local production in China made a presentation to prepare for an increase in the number of models imported/sold in China in preparation for reduction of tariffs on imported vehicles in 2006, which China promised when were to join the WTO.
The following report is an outline of the exhibition by six Japanese auto manufacturers - Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi Motors, and Suzuki. All six automakers exhibited more than 10 models centered on their models produced and to be produced in China, and ones to be imported, including a concept car.

In Jan. 2005, Guangqi Toyota Engine, which is Toyota's Guangzhou engine plant, started production of engine components such as cam shafts and crank shafts. The company will begin producing the 2.4L AZ engine in the autumn of 2005 with a planned annual production volume of 25,000 in 2005. Guangqi Toyota Engine plans to export all engines and engine components that it manufactures to Japan for some time. |
| In Mar. 2005, six exclusive dealers for the Lexus brand which were established in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou opened, releasing the GS430/GS300 sports model. The number of dealers is planned to increase to 14 in 2005 and to 90 by 2008 with the aim of selling 50,000 a year between 2008 and 2010. |

On Apr. 19, 2005, the company introduced five models that it would launch in the Chinese market by 2007 - the Tiida sedan, the Tiida hatchback, the Fuga, the Quest, and the 350Z (Fairlady). Among them, production of the Tiida sedan began in Apr. 2005. Production of the Fuga and the Tiida hatchback is planned to start in Jun. and in the autumn of 2005, respectively. In addition, the company plans to import/sell two new models in 2005. |

| In Mar. 2005, the company, as a three-way joint venture with China FAW Group and FAW Car, established FAW Mazda Automotive Sales Co., Ltd., a sales company that deal with all models that Mazda manufactures in China to enhance its sales system in China. |
On Apr. 2005, the company announced a plan to locally produce the Mazda 6 (Japanese name: Atenza. Production models in China are a sport wagon and a Sport 5 door) and the Tribute SUV, and to import/sell the RX-8.
Though the time to release the Tribute is unknown, production of the Mazda 6 will begin at FAW Car in the first half of 2006. The RX-8 will be released within one year from now. Including the four models, the company will introduce a total of eight models within the next three years, aiming to sell 100,000 in 2005 and 300,000 in 2010. |

| At the Shanghai Auto 2005, Chongqing Changan Suzuki Automobile announced that its annual production capacity had increased to 200,000 as the expansion of its plant was completed. The company plans to introduce at least one new model from Suzuki a year by 2008 to prepare a model line for SUV and 1.3/1.6/1.8L vehicles. It will also introduce a production line for 1.6/1.8L engine with a plan to start operations in 2006. |
| In Apr. 2005, the company announced that it would start manufacturing a new engine - the K14B (maximum power of 67kw, 1372cc, DOHC aluminum engine) - at Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki Automobile in Jun. 2005. ■Toyota exhibited its models to be produced in China and Lexus brand models that it steps up import/sales
Toyota exhibited 23 models including a concept car. Daihatsu did not make a presentation, but China FAW Group exhibited the Terios, which FAW Huali (Tianjin) produces on consignment from Daihatsu.

Toyota also displayed six Lexus brand models which it started selling at its six exclusive dealers in March 2005.
The number of exclusive dealers for Lexus brand will be increased to 14 in 2005 and to 90 by 2008 with a sales target of 50,000 a year between 2008 and 2010.

In addition, Toyota exhibited its models manufactured in China - Vios/Corolla (produced at Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor), Land Cruiser 100 (produced at Changchun FAW Fengyue Automobile), and Land Cruiser Prade (produced at Sichuan Toyota) as well as Daihatsu brand model - Terios (produced at FAW Huali (Tianjin). The company also displayed RAV4 SUV, Previa MPV, new Hiace van, F1 racing car, i-unit Concept - a single-seat future concept vehicle also exhibited at the he 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan - an engine to be used for the Crown.

■Honda exhibited new Accord, Odyssey, and CR-V, all of which it launched in the spring of 2005 as well as its hybrid technology
Honda exhibited its products such as the new Accord, the Odyssey, and the CR-V, all of which were released in the spring of 2005. In addition, the company displayed 10 models; it set up an introduction corner for its hybrid technology to display hybrid models of the Accord and the Civic and a fuel cell vehicle FCX (three models including cut model) which is capable of starting below zero. In addition, Honda exhibited ASIMO robot, a cut model of 3.0i-VTEC engine, K24A4 engine that Dongfeng Honda manufactures, and 5-speed AT system.

■Accord: 2005 model year Accord, which is based on the seventh generation of the US specification Accord, meeting Euro IV emission standard. The model is produced at Guangzhou Honda Automobile and was released in March 2005.

Mitsubishi Motors, which announced its policy to actively market Mitsubishi brand vehicles in China under its management rebuilding plan announced in January 2005, exhibited 11 Mitsubishi brand vehicles including the Pajero GLS, which it began producing in China in May 2005.

In addition, Mitsubishi Motors exhibited its models such as Colt open model (exhibited at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show as reference exhibit) which was jointly developed with Pininfarina based on the former Colt European model, a 2.4L engine/4-speed AT model of the Galant, whose 3.8L V6 engine model was introduced in the North American market in the autumn of 2003, Lancer Evolution IX, a high-performance sports sedan released in Japan in March 2005, Pajero Evolution, Champion car of Paris Dakar Rally 2005, and Pajero(T2)TEAM MITSUBISHI RALLIART CHINA's model which participated in Paris Dakar Rally 2005.
Moreover, the company actively exhibited its models manufactured as a Chinese brand for which it provides a technical licensing.

In addition, Mitsubishi Motors exhibitied products such as 2005 models of Pajero Sport/Outlander which are produced at Beijing Jeep and MIVEC (sequential valve timing mechanism: Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electric Control System)engine which is produced at Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Engine Mfg. to be used for Outlander which is manufactured by Beijing Jeep (the engine meets Euro III emission standards).
■Suzuki participated in the Shanghai Auto Show for the first time, exhibiting its products such as Liana and Swift, which it plans to start producing
Suzuki, which participated in the Shanghai Auto Show for the first time, exhibited 12 finished vehicles (four of which were reference exhibit) and 1 new engine centered on the latest versions that it produces at Chongqing Changan Suzuki in Chongqing and Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki in Jiangxi province.
